Darjeeling
It was on the 10th of May on a sweltering evening when the merry band of North Pointers from St Josephs College ( School Dept) Darjeeling congregated together in the cool environs of The Saturday Club , Kolkata to spend a memorable occasion together among themselves , cutting across all barriers of seniority , age , caste and religion , a virtue synonymous with that rare true blue North Point ethos .
The highlight of the evening was to felicitate and honour their former teachers like Mr S.K Jha , Mrs Lekha Venkat and to also welcome the new North Point management like the Rector Fr K.L George S.J and Principal Fr Lawrence Manniar S.J . In attendance of the proceedings were Fr Felix Raj S.J , Vice Chancellor of St Xaviers University Rajarhat Campus , Kolkata.
It’s that time of the year again where Men meant for each other gear up to lend a hand to a faltering brother and lift up the lame and slow. The Twin Towers are open wide, once again, for the WINTER CAMP - 2019 for the underprivileged kids from around the area. St Joseph’s School (North Point), Darjeeling is all set with a whole month of activities for the unprivileged.
This has been an event the School organises every winter for the Society and the Darjeeling North Point School Alumni Association (DNPSAA) is actively involved. The first day of the camp witnessed a registration of 357 students from classes III to X. The numbers are expected to rise further in the next two days of registration and is expected to cross the maximum number of 650 students, which was of the last winter camp.
The “Faces in Our Midst” – Fr. Dr. Gerard Van Walleghem SJ
A young man who was only 24 when he first came to India, has now spent 63 years in India, most of it in Darjeeling. He left a luxurious life in Canada behind, and choose to come and serve people in India, his fate and our good fortune crossed path, rest as they say is history. This is a simple story of an extraordinary individual – our beloved Fr. Van whose love for Darjeeling and its people is unmatched.
EARLY CALLING
Almost everyone who lives in Darjeeling knows about or has heard of or seen Fr. Van. Not many know that he has lived in India for the past 63 years, almost all of which – other than a few years of training for his priesthood and early postings – he has spent in Darjeeling.
