Cooee, the coveted biannual school magazine of DNS Maithon in the ’80s and ’90s, was more than ink and paper – it was our “sorting hat.” Our teachers, well used the stenciled and cyclostyled magazine, smelling of ink and fresh paper, to spark a lifelong love for language, literature, and the craft of storytelling, shaping future authors, researchers, communicators, and many more.

Therefore, reviving the iconic Cooee felt natural. With DNS Maithon alumni spread worldwide, the timeless returned in a digital avatar, “eCooee”. The editorial team was led by Ms. Shukla Choudhury, present Principal of DNS Maithon and an alumnus of the 1985 ICSE batch, and supported by alumni members, Pravati Maulik Gupta (ICSE 1999), Parikshit Sinha (ICSE 1999), Shekhar Khetan (ICSE 2001) and Dipu Kumar (ICSE 2006)

eCooee is a vibrant archive of personal journeys, memories, and 45 years of visual storytelling. Penned by alumni members Sougata Basu (ICSE 2000), Aritri Chakraborty (ICSE 2000), Shekhar Khetan (ICSE 2001), Ritesh Anand (ICSE 2002), Puja Roy (ICSE 2004), Prasun Roy (ISC 2010), Joydeep Nath (in DNSM until 1997), Kasturi Sarkar (ISC 2010) and our ex-teacher, Ms. Meena Gupta, captures the spirit of DNS Maithon through photographs and reflections. From Independence Day basketball matches between present and former students, to the grand December reunion, eCooee is also a gateway to the recent and upcoming events and community efforts – complete with a yearly calendar that inspires a global reunion, greater participation and heartfelt connections. Working tirelessly towards the grand success of these alumni events are Dr. Sushmita, Mr. Amit, Ms. Deepa, Ms. Suhasini, Ms. Alka, Mr. Dipu, Mr. Parikshit, Mr. Indrajeet, Mr. Kirty, Ms. Indrani, Md. I.H. Ansari, Mr. Sunil Sharma, and several others.

The magazine’s maiden issue was launched on the eve of the Feast of Ignatius of Loyola, on 30 July 2025. Members of the eCooee editorial board gifted the magazine to the school Principal and ex-students who are now DNS Maithon teachers themselves, invoking the Patron Saint’s blessings to guide our global alumni in the spirit of Cura Personalis—as they excel in life and stay bonded to their alma mater.
