20 August 2024 was an important day in the annals of St Aloysius (Deemed To Be University)Mangaluru and St Aloysius College Alumni Association (SACAA). They launched a unique Diploma Certificate Course in “Herbal Medicines and Disease Prevention” for the inmates inside the District Prison in Mangalore. This is the first of its kind course across all Indian prisons.

Among the dignitaries present at the inaugural function included the Vice Chancellor Rev Dr Praveen Martis SJ, the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Ravindra M Joshi, Prl. District and Sessions Judge, Mrs Shobha BG, Member Secretary, District Legal Services Authority and others.
A book written by Prof. Edmund Frank on Herbal Plants and Disease Prevention was released on the occasion. Prof.Edmund Frank is the Coordinator of the course.
