Don Bosco Panaji wins Goa inter-school football
FOOTBALL builds T.E.A.M. ...for Together Everyone Achieves More! Deputy Chief Minister of Goa and Patron Member of Britto's OBA Mr. Francis D'Souza came "Back to school" and stayed back for an entire football match, International footballer Malvita Mascarenhas came as the only Lady football coach and her T.E.A.M. won the day, The Referees were Ashok Shirodkar, Eknath Salgaokar and Dharma Chodankar selected by the Chairman of the Organizing Committee BOB Savio Necy Fernandes. Don Bosco HS, Panaji beat one Jesuit school [Loyola HS, Margao] via a tie-breaker after a spirited semi-final match ended in a goal-less draw ...and beat St. Britto HS, Mapusa, the other Jesuit school and co-organizer of the tournament named after a former Superior General of the "Society of Jesus" Fr. Pedro Arrupe SJ" in a thrilling final by a single goal. Don Bosco HS, Panaji, was by far the best team in the tournament ....and the best team won with a single goal from Aman Govekar, who was also the highest scorer of the tournament, with a hat-trick to boot.
Earlier,the tournament started tamely with a goalless draw between St. Britto HS, Mapusa, and Holy Cross HS, Bastora teams. Title holders Don Bosco HS, Panaji, came in next and their star player Aman Govekar [Jersey No. 9] scored a hat-trick in the 4-0 victory over St. Joseph's HS, Arpora ...once the indomitable Lyons. Brother school Loyola HS, Margao scored 3-0 over St. Xavier's HS, Moira . SFX HS, Siloim is better known for the annual Festival of Plants & Flowers but their boys also showed they can play football. SFX Siolim brought down St. Joseph's Institute, Calangute 2-0. In the second round of the league, Holy Cross, Bastora beat Chubby Cheeks Spring Valley HS-Pilerne 1-0. St. Britto HS had to do better than that to reach the semi-finals as they have had a goal-less draw with Holy Cross, Bastora in the opening match. St. Britto HS shot out Chubby Cheeks C.C.Spring Valley High School 2-0 to make a berth for itself in the semi-finals this year. Jersey No. 22 Jonas D'Souza scored both the goals for the home team which will now clash with SFX-Siolim in the Semi-finals.
